Simon Wilby Works On Replacing Electricity With Solar Energy

The Smart One, a solar powered device that pumps renewable energy to any major cell phone brands around the world, was released earlier this year in Barbados. It was invented by British-Canadian inventor and businessman Simon Wilby who heads the Smart Power Inc., a company that markets and distributes solar powered products.

This device is used in place of the lithium batteries provided in standard cell phone packages. It is mounted on the back of cell phones for direct exposure to light sources. Once light energy hits the surface of the solar cell, The Smart One will begin to convert it to battery charge, which will then be used to run the mobile phone.

The latest technology plastic solar cells that this device uses can squeeze energy out of just about any light source to continuously charge the mobile phone to which it is attached. Matched with an updated battery technology called lithium exon, this device is designed to outlast three conventional batteries combined.

Now, the technology that Simon Wilby’s invention uses is being readied for application to other gadgets. Plans are under way for designing more devices, beginning with a “skin” that can make laptops run on light energy and solar powered street lamps that can illuminate parts of Barbados.
